What is the McCall MacBain International Fellowship?
As explained on the fellowship site:
“The McCall MacBain International Fellowships aim to enable globally-minded young Canadians to develop strong intercultural competencies and ties to different regions of the world, and to cultivate creativity, resilience, independence, critical thinking and the ability to ‘stretch’ outside of their comfort zones.”
Structure of the Year
The fellowship experience is divided into three term components:
Language Term
After departure during summer, fellows take language courses, live with a host family, and volunteer with a local organization.
The goal is to support students to ‘stretch’ their language skills, ideally to a new language, by visiting a country where English is not the primary language.
Academic Term
Fellows take a full-time course load on a university exchange, including some courses taken in their new language.
The fellowship is recognized as an external program by McMaster’s Study Abroad initiative, which can support you to request that courses taken abroad count towards your McMaster degree.
Work Term
Fellows secure a full-time, paid work placement or full-time internship before returning home in time for the start of a new Fall semester.
