As part of Brampton’s commitment to fostering a community of innovation, BramHacks 2024 marks the launch of a groundbreaking event designed to engage and empower the brightest minds in our community. This inaugural event invites students from Brampton who are enrolled in universities across Canada to participate in a STEAM-based multidisciplinary competition, where technology meets creativity to shape the future of the city.
The theme for BramHacks 2024 is Transportation: the goal is to create solutions that make transportation smarter, safer, and more inclusive for everyone in the city.
A ‘hackathon’ is a collaborative skill-development event where participants work together to solve a design challenge over a short period. While Social Sciences students often misinterpret hackathons to be exclusively targeted at computer scientists and engineers, in truth event organizers typically enthusiastically welcome interdisciplinary participants with a wide range of technical, social, and design skills of many kinds.
Team members from the City of Brampton have reached out to McMaster Social Sciences staff to specifically encourage students from our faculty to register for this event, being held across three days at Brampton City Hall. All eligible McMaster students are also encouraged to register, regardless of faculty.
No matter your background or skill level, your ideas can help shape the future of transportation in Brampton—and make our city more inclusive, efficient, and sustainable. So come with your skills, your creativity, and your vision for a better way to move!
